James Donald Lauter, Retired Senior Vice President in Investments at Dean Witter Reynolds, Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in business.
Mr. Lauter began investing when he was 16, and has worked in the financial sector ever since. As a market research manager with Germain’s Inc., he won a 1961 Sammy Award from the Los Angeles Sales Executive Club for excellence in sales, and went on to the firm of Dean Witter because of the company’s reputation for integrity. Mr. Lauter worked with Dean Witter for 35 years, and recalls his training class with them as well as his promotion to senior vice president of the company as the highlights of his career. He is also very proud of his three grandchildren.
Born in Los Angeles to Richard Leo Lauter and Helen M. Lauter, Mr. Lauter served with the U.S. Armed Forces for two years and attended the University of California, Los Angeles to earn a BS in 1956. He worked with Germain’s for five years, and in 1961 he joined Dean Witter Reynolds as an account executive trainee and then became a registered account executive. At the time he attended his training class, he was ranked third in volume in the country. Ultimately, Mr. Lauter was able to become a leader in the California financial sector, and was named president of the Pasadena Bond Club from 1995 to 1996.
Additionally, Mr. Lauter is a member of the AARP, the University of California, Los Angeles Alumni, the Chancellor’s Society of the UCLA Fund, the Bruin Athletic Club, the Bruin Varsity Club, and the El Caballero Country Club. He married Neima Zwieli in 1973, and had Gary and Walter James, now deceased. In his spare time, Mr. Lauter enjoys golf, reading, and spending time with his family. He believes he has achieved his successes by working harder and smarter, and values his reputation among his peers as a thoughtful person with integrity, empathy, and organization.
