Oliver Wendell Welch, Retired Pharmaceutical Executive, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in business.
Now retired from pharmaceuticals, Mr. Welch was the long-serving assistant director of regulatory affairs for the legacy firm Sterling Winthrop, now acquired by Bayer AG. He served the company through a time of acquisitions and divestments, and after he retired he became a consultant for Sanofi Winthrop Inc. for some time. Mr. Welch is now 87 years old, and remains a member of the Regulatory Affairs Professionals Society, as well as the Drug Information Association and the Order of St. John of Jerusalem.
Born in Jacksonville, Texas, to Jackson Andrew and Annie Laura Welch, Mr. Welch attended Texas Tech University and earned an MA from Columbia University in 1958. He entered pharmaceuticals as a representative of Warner Lambert Company in New Jersey, now a prized acquisition of the pharmaceutical giant Pfizer. Over ten years, he became supervisor of marketing research and manpower development before going on to Boehringer Mannheim Corporation in New York. In 1975 he was named president of Biomedical Data Company, and in 1977 he joined Sterling Winthrop, serving until his retirement in 1994.
In his retirement, Mr. Welch has had the time to enjoy music, travel, and theater. He was featured in the pages of numerous volumes of Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in the East, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, and Who’s Who in the World. He is the husband of Wanda Virginia Urrey.
