Carolyn Mullenax Edwards, MEd, BFA, Retired Public Relations Executive, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Academia.

Ms. Edwards retired in 2014 from a long career with universities and media in New Mexico, most recently serving as director of publishing for Eastern New Mexico University in Portales for 14 years. She continues to volunteer as an organizer for the starting alumnae group of Tri Delta, a fundraising volunteer with the Staff Friends of Shuter Library, and with Music from Angel Fire, affiliated with the Annual Chamber Concert Series. Ms. Edwards has won numerous awards for her skill in public relations, including numerous District IV Awards from the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations from 1989. She is a recipient of the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, and was featured in the pages of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in Media and Communication, Who’s Who in the World, and Who’s Who of American Women.

Born in French Camp, California, to Charles Harold Mullenax and Jessie Jewel Mullenax, Ms. Edwards attended the University of Tulsa to earn a BFA in 1967, worked as an artist in Spokane, Washington, and later taught art in New Mexico for some time. She entered public relations as a director of the Spokane Symphony Society, and made her way to advertising coordinator of the Crescent Department Store. She earned a MEd from Eastern New Mexico University in 1976, and went into radio as a copywriter and art director, ultimately becoming a promotional and art director at the television station KENW-TV. Ms. Edwards joined Eastern New Mexico as a coordinator of alumni affairs for ten years and returned in 1985 as director of publishing, television, and publishing information, also serving at Clovis Community College in a similar role.

As a prolific volunteer and patron of the performing arts, Ms. Edwards has supported the University Symphony League of Clovis, New Mexico, and held a seat with the board of the New Mexico Outdoor Drama Association from 1986 to 1995. She was honored as a 1999 Women Communicator of Achievement by New Mexico Press, and received a 1999 Design Award from the Council for Advancement and Support Education. Ms. Edwards holds memberships in numerous area media groups, notably New Mexico Press Women, Rotary International, and the sorority Delta Delta Delta. In her free time, she enjoys reading, classical music, dance, photography, and volunteer work. She married Dennis D. Edwards in 1993.
