Federico Faggin, President of the Federico and Elvia Faggin Foundation, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Computer Science.

Dr. Faggin is the co-recipient of a 2010 National Medal of Technology and Innovation from the White House for his work in the early development of the Intel microprocessor, the first of its kind created. He was involved in creating the Intel 4004, Intel 8080, Intel 4004, Intel 2102A, as well as the Zilog, Z80 and Z8 microprocessors. He is also known for developing silicon gate technology for MOS fabrication. Dr. Faggin is now the president of the Federico and Elvia Faggin Foundation in support of the science of consciousness, or artificial intelligence, through research in U.S. universities. Dr. Faggin is a Marquis Who’s Who Industry Expert and the recipient of a Marquis Who’s Who Humanitarian Award and an Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award.

An Italian by birth, Dr. Faggin was born to Giuseppe and Emma Munari Faggin in Vicenza, and attended the Istituto Tecnico Industriale Statale Alessandro Rossi. He went on to earn a doctorate in physics from the Università di Padova in 1965, and worked as section head of the Fairchild Camera & Instrument Company in Palo Alto, California from 1968 to 1970. That year, he joined Intel as a department manager, and made great strides in the four years he was with the company. Dr. Faggin founded Zilog Inc. in 1974, and co-founded Cygnet Techs. Inc. in 1982. He remains the chairman emeritus of Synaptics Inc.

Dr. Faggin has also been honored with the 2006 Lifetime Achievement Award from the European Patent Office, the 1997 Kyoto Prize, the 1996 National Inventors Hall of Fame, the 1994 W. Wallace McDowell Award from the IEEE Computer Society, and the Marconi Fellowship Award of 1988. He can be found in the pages of Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the West, and Who’s Who in the World. Dr. Faggin started his eponymous foundation with his wife Elvia Sardei in 2011, and is the proud father of Marzia, Marc, and Eric. He has a granddaughter, Isabella.
