He has been a real estate professional in the Ann Arbor area since 1973, and was named 1990 Realtor of the Year by the Ann Arbor Area Board-Realtors. Mr. Surovell is also a patron of the literary arts, and has been a trustee of the Library of Michigan Foundation since 2005, as well as a former editor of the University of Michigan, Scott, Foresman, and Co., as well as the Princeton University Press. He is a 2011 Trustee of the Year of the Michigan Library Association, as well as a Marquis Industry Expert and recipient of a Marquis Who’s Who Humanitarian Award, featured in Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the Midwest, and Who’s Who in the World.
Born to Samuel and Florence Deborah Surovell in Washington DC, Mr. Surovell holds a BA from Columbia University, and attended postgraduate courses with the University of Michigan. He joined Fletcher & Klein Inc. in Ann Arbor as a real estate agent in 1973, and went on to become a sales manager with Charles Reinhart C. from 1975 to 1982. The year, Mr. Surovell became president of Edward Surovell Realtors. He has given much of his time to the arts in Ann Arbor as a member of the planning commission of the city, former president and current trustee of the Ann Arbor District Library, as well as a member of the Michigan Library Association and the board of directors of the Michigan Shakespeare Festival.
In addition to his previous awards, Mr. Surovell has received a Community Book Award, and holds a seat on the board of governors of the William L. Clements Library. He is the former president of the Ann Arbor Area Board-Realtors, and a former trustee of the numerous cultural institutions like the Historical Society of Michigan and the Michigan Center for the book, affiliated with the University Museum Society. He is a member of the National Association of Realtors. Mr. Surovell enjoys collecting books, art, and philanthropy. He is also the proud father of David Alexander and Claire Katherine, and the husband of Natalie A. Sallade.
