Rita M. Barredo, Retired Auditor at the Defense Contract Audit Agency, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Management.
After 31 years with the Defense Contract Audit Agency, Ms. Barredo retired in 2016 and has since been focused on her roles as a civic contributor. She has been a corporator of the Torrington Historical Society since 2014, and supports the Association of Professional Genealogists, the Utah Genealogical Association, and the Torrington Chapter of UNICO National. Since 1994, she has been secretary of the Waterbury Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants. Ms. Barredo is a Marquis Who’s Who Industry Expert and a recipient of an Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award featured in the pages of Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the East, Who’s Who in the World, and Who’s Who of American Women.
Ms. Barredo is an alumnus of the University of Connecticut, where she earned a BA in history in 1975. She worked as a timekeeper of the Timex Corp. until 1985, earning a second BS in accounting from Post College in 1981. Ms. Barredo went on to accrue three different master’s degrees while working with the Defense Contract Audit Agency, beginning in 1984 with a MS in accounting from the University of Hartford. She earned an MBA there in 1990, and in 2010 she completed a MA in public history from Central Connecticut State University. Ms. Barredo still lives in Torrington, where she was born to Avelino and Josephine Barredo.
Ms. Barredo is a certified public accountant in Connecticut, and a diplomate of the American College of Forensic Examiners as well as the American Board of Forensic Accountants. She is certified as an information systems auditor, as well as in homeland security and government auditing. She has supported numerous professional societies like the American Woman’s Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, as well as historical ones like the Connecticut Historical Society. History is one of her hobbies, along with genealogy and reading.
