Jose Alejandro Rojas Ramirez, Alternate Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Finance.
Through perseverance, attention to detail, and work ethic, Dr. Rojas Ramirez has become executive director of the World Bank Group since 2006, and executive director of the International Monetary Fund from 2006 to 2010. He previously served as minister of finance for the Republic of Venezuela, from 1999 to 2001, and later served as an advisor for the president of the Central Bank of Venezuela to help keep the country from financial default. Dr. Rojas Ramirez has been presented with a Tres Honor Award from the Université Paris II Panthéon-Assas, as well as an Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. He has appeared in the pages of Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in the World.
Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Dr. Rojas Ramirez studied with the Universidad Central de Venezuela to earn a BS in mathematics statistics and a BS in mathematics in 1983. He went to the IFP School to conduct coursework in energy models, senior company management, and energy economics. In 1988 Dr. Rojas Ramirez completed an MS in mathematics economics and econometrics from the Université Paris II Panthéon-Assas, and earned a PhD in the subjects in 1993. While advising the president of the Central Bank of Venezuela, he held the title of vice president of finance and planning with Petróleos de Venezuela, PDVSA, which was crucial to the successful management of the country’s assets.
In addition to Venezuelan economics, Dr. Rojas Ramirez has been an executive director with the Inter-American Developmental Bank and the Inter-American Investment Corporation. He is well known for initiating and designing the modernization of the custom system throughout UN cooperation while adopting SIDUNEA. He is also a consultant in finance, banking, risk, and other subjects, and has taught with the Universidad Central de Venezuela. Dr. Rojas Ramirez speaks English, French, and Spanish, and is the proud father of Jose Alejandro Rojas Rojas.
