George Henry Megrue, PhD, Founder and President of Megrue Microanalytical Systems, Co-founder and Secretary of Foxglove School Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in geophysics, geochemistry and business.

Sculptor, educator and scientist, Dr. Megrue co-founded the Foxglove School in 1975, after a long career in geology and materials sciences. He holds patents on a system and technique for analyzing small quantities of solid  materials within meteorites and returned NASA Apollo 13,14, and 15  lunar soil and rock samples. The relative abundances of the helium, neon, and argon nuclides where determined with a laser microprobe mass spectrometer .In addition to the microanalyses of the lunar samples he collected samples for age dating the emplacement of Ethiopian Basaltic rocks and their magnetic properties with D.W. Strangway, which was funded by the National Geographic Society. After working in several national laboratories  and Founding Megrue Microanalytical Systems in 1974 he turned his attention to art and won the 2004 Carol Eisner Award for his Sculpture “Sunrise” at the 55th Annual Art of the North East Juried Exhibition.

As a Marquis Who’s Who Industry Expert and recipient of the Marquis Who’s Who Humanitarian Award and the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, Dr. Megrue has appeared in the 25th edition of Who’s Who in Finance and Industry. He was born in Jamaica, New York, and received a BA in 1957 from Amherst College, and a Master of Arts in 1960  and Ph.D in 1962 in geology from Columbia University. Dr. Megrue joined the Chemistry Dept at Brookhaven National Laboratory for 4 yrs in 1962 and later for 7 yrs at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory and the Harvard College Observatory in Cambridge before founding his own firm in 1974.

Outside of his office, Dr. Megrue has given his time as a former local president of Rotary International, where he founded the Austrian Summer Exchange in 1983. He is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and a member of the American Geophysical Union, the American Chemical Society and the Explorers Club. Dr. Megrue also co-founded the New Canaan Teen Center, Inc., and was made trustee of the New Canaan Historical Society in 1985. He was also a trustee of the St. Luke’s School in New Canaan, and remains a trustee of the New York Academy of Sciences.

Dr. Megrue enjoys traveling, and spending time with his family, including his wife Suzanne Jacobsen, and his children George Richard, Katherine Diane, Karen Lynn and Kevin Scott. He is a proud grandfather and great-grandfather.
