George Walter Carmany III, Finance Company Executive and Consultant, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in health care.
Mr. Carmany is currently an adviser on health care policy with Harvard Medical School, and a senior adviser of the Essex Woodlands Health Ventures in addition to his role as a consultant. He is also the director of Remedy Partners in Connecticut, Macquarie Infrastructure Co. in New York, and of Breath America Inc. in Tennessee, as well as a senior advisor of Brown Brothers Harriman and Co. in Boston and EnGeneIC Pty. of Australia. Mr. Carmany entered his field after serving to the rank of lieutenant with the U.S. Naval Reserve. He is a recipient of the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, and appeared in Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the East, and Who’s Who in the World.
An alumnus of Amherst College, Mr. Carmany became vice president of Bankers Trust Co. in 1966, and was a senior executive vice president of American Express Bank as well as The Boston Co. He entered health care as chairman of Helicon Therapeutics from 1999 to 2005, and was vice chair of Computerized Medical Systems from 2001 to 2008. Mr. Carmany has also given his time to Bentley University as a former trustee, the New England Medical Center Hospitals as a former chairman, and to the Whitehead Institute as a former chairman and member of the board of associates. Among numerous organizations, he has been the vice president of the alumni council at Amherst College since 2007.
Before launching his career, Mr. Carmany served with the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1962 to 1966 to the rank of lieutenant, and later became a trustee of the New York Yacht Club as well as a commodore of the Fort Worth Boat Club and Shinnecock Yacht Club. He earned a 2014 Distinguished Service Award from the National Maritime Historical Society, as well as a 2012 New York Yacht Club Medal. Mr. Carmany also holds a 2012 Eminent Service Medal and a 2001 Distinguished Service Award from his alma mater, Amherst College.
