James D. McChesney, Chairman at Cloaked Therapeutics, LLC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Pharmaceuticals.

Dr. McChesney also owns Arbor Therapeutics LLC, where he developed a technology to help chemotherapy to be more selective to tumors instead of damaging other tissues. He was honored in 2016 as a fellow of the American Society of Pharmacognosy, which he has served as a longtime member. Dr. McChesney is deeply involved n the search for potential drug leads and natural sources of drugs, and is a natural products chemist.

An alumnus of Iowa State University, Dr. McChesney earned a BS before earning a MA in botany and studying organic chemistry with Indiana University to earn a doctorate in 1965. He is currently an adjunct professor of biomolecular sciences at the University of Mississippi, and won a 1995 School of Pharmacy Faculty Research Award there. Dr. McChesney is the former chief scientific officer of natural products at Tapestry Pharmaceuticals from 1996 to 2008, and is the current chief scientific officer of ChromaDex Inc. He is also the founder and principal of Ironston Separations, which develops technologies to separate, purify, and characterize natural product chemicals. Many of these substances are derived from plants, microorganisms, and marine organisms, ultimately making their way to new pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and consumer products.

Dr. McChesney would like to be remembered for his successes in deriving drugs from natural sources, and has contributed in the neighborhood of 200 published collaborations in scientific journals. In the ‘70s, he was part of teams that investigated epoxyketones, cytokinin, barbiuturates, acylaminopurines, and even DNA synthesis. In August of 2017, Dr. McChesney contributed to a study on high-performance liquid chromatography used to identify certain compounds in Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni, as well as the structure elucidation of rebaudiosides V and W. He filed patents in 2014 for producing abeo-taxanes in the treatment of cancer.
