Mr. Unruh has been involved in the banking and financial world for more than four decades and has built up an impressive set of skills and expertise in the industries. These skills serve him well in his current role as the founding principal at Alerion Capital Group. He has held this position since 1998. He has prior experience as a chairman, CEO, COO president, member of the board of directors amidst other roles of the Burroughs Corporation (now Unisys Corporation). Prior to joining that company in the early 1980s, Mr. Unruh served as the vice president of finance for the Memorex Corporation, the vice president of treasury and corporate development and director of corporate planning and analysis at Fairchild Camera and Instrument. In addition to these roles, he has served on many boards, including but not limited to; VTI Instruments Inc., Wordlink, Inc., Steton Technology Group, Inc., LumenIQ Corporation, Tenet Healthcare Corporation and Prudential Financial Corporation.
Mr. Unruh was set on his path in business by first earning a BSBA from Jamestown College (now University of Jamestown) in 1963. He continued his education at the University of Denver with an MBA in 1964. Additionally, Mr. Unruh has been recognized with an Honorary LLD from Drexel University. On a civic level, he has been involved as a trustee of Jamestown College and has served as the chairman of the board of directors for the University of Jamestown.
Outside of his trusted business leadership, Mr. Unruh is the author of “Customers Mean Business: Six Steps to Building Relationships that Last.” He has been recognized for his work as the recipient of the National Leadership Award of Excellence of the State of North Dakota. He has also been an honoree of the Chief Executive Officer of the Year from Enterprise Awards and received the Eleanor Roosevelt Humanitarian Award. In his spare time, he enjoys photography, philanthropy and golf.
