Dean Brown, Deputy State Forester for the State of Alaska, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in forestry.
With more than 40 years of experience in geology and forestry, Ms. Brown has served as the Deputy State Forester for the Division of Forestry of the Department of Natural Resources with the state of Alaska since 2004. In the early 1970s, fresh out of college, Ms. Dean took on a position as a geology lecturer with Indiana University. She then worked as a geologist for Amax Coal Company, a field and construction engineer for the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System with the Fluor Corporation, and then as an environmental geologist in Wasilla, AK. From there, she became involved in the Department of Natural Resources in Alaska, working largely in agriculture. Additionally, she has experience with fire management, having been chair of the Alaska Wildland Fire Coordinating Group with the Alaska Interagency Coordination Center’s Alaska Fire Service.
Ms. Brown developed an interest in nature at an early age and she pursued a degree in geology to satisfy her curiosity about the physical world around her. She earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1967. On a civic level, she has also been involved with the great outdoors, serving as a volunteer with the Iditarod Trail Committee and as an Alaskan Delegate for the Centennial of the United States Forest Service with the United States Department of Agriculture.
Throughout her career, Ms. Brown has been recognized on numerous occasions for her contributions. She received a Certificate of Appreciation from 4-H Youth Development, an Outstanding Achievement Award from the Department of Natural Resources, and a Certificate of Appreciation from the Anchorage School District. She has also received a Certificate of Achievement from the Susitna Council of the Girl Scouts of the USA and a Certificate of Appreciation from the city of Valdez. When not working, Ms. Brown enjoys flying, horse breeding and showing, painting, photography, and gold mining.
