His expertise in utilizing noninvasive imaging techniques to help drive drug discovery programs make him a perfect fit for the pharmaceutical company, where his responsibilities include heading the translational imaging engine and leading preclinical imaging efforts.

Dr. Patel holds a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry from the Royal Holloway at the University of London, a Master of Science in biochemical pharmacology from the University of Southampton, and a PhD in neuroscience from the University of Hertfordshire. During his master’s program, Dr. Patel completed a three month project at the pharmaceutical giant Merck & Co., Inc., and found that he really enjoyed it. He was thrilled they were impressed enough to offer him a job, and he spent the first 20 years of his career garnering experience as a research fellow there. One of the highlights of his time at Merck was being part of their imaging group; in nine years, they were able to develop first-in-class imaging agents, some of which are still routinely used in the clinic.

Dr. Patel believes that it is important to ensure his knowledge remains up to date, and is known for his dedication and willingness to learn every day. Throughout his career, he has published his findings in more than 60 articles in professional journals. When Dr. Patel isn’t working, he enjoys golf, soccer, cricket, and watching sports.
