Abe Shainberg, President of Cohort Productions, Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in video production and entertainment law.
While studying to be a lawyer, Mr. Shainberg felt a calling to creative outlets. At the time he couldn’t become involved with the arts in order to prioritize his legal education, but he knew that one day he would be returning to follow his passion for creative endeavors. During his law career, he has been an integral figure in art dealings and brokerage, including fine art and gem stones. Outside of law, he built a production company and has utilized his own creative talents to produce scripts and films. Some of his achievements include working on big film productions and being involved with large art sales that have required non-disclosure agreements. His peers consider him a Renaissance man due to his involvement and excellence in different fields.
From an early age, Mr. Shainberg was surrounded and supported by parents and family who were successful in their own lives. His mother had five degrees and his father was a Rabbi and writer. Inspired by his parents, Mr. Shainberg first earned a Bachelor of Arts from Brooklyn College in 1974. He continued at St. John’s University, receiving a JD in 1977. Following this, he was admitted to practice with the United States District Court Southern District of New York and the United States District Court East New York. Proving a life committed to learning and self-development is a key factor to success, Mr. Shainberg earned a diplomate of marketing from New York University in 1990, then following his father’s example to become an ordained Rabbi by the Rabbi Jacob Joseph School in 1973.
In 1984, Mr. Shainberg became a published author with “Jews and the Diamond Trade.” He has also served on many committees while active in his law career, such as the Arbitration & Mediation Committee for the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and the Entertainment, Arts & Sports Law Committee of the New York State Bar Association. He has also served on the advisory board of the Women’s Film Net and on the American Watercolor Association, the International Committee Against Mental Illness, and the New York Board of Rabbis.
Early in his career, Mr. Shainberg worked as a counsel and executive director of the Diamond Dealers Club from 1978 to 1992. In the 1990s, he shifted his work to marketing, serving as the vice president of marketing and public relations at Alperin & Kovant Advertising followed by the vice president of marketing position at ArtScroll Printing Corp. From 1995 to 1996, he was the secretary-treasurer for the Galerie Maximilian before becoming counsel at the Feldman Law Firm. From 2004 to 2007, he took the role of vice president of marketing for Superior Glacier. He has been the president of Cohort Productions, Inc., since 2008, having previously held the same position from 1998 to 2003.
