Karen K. Johnson, Marketing Professional, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in business.
The first in her family to go to college, Ms. Johnsen was brought up to always reach for the next level of success. She believes this, combined with her perfectionism and integrity, has played a huge part in her marketing and writing longevity. Her policy throughout her career was to display a level of excellence others would aspire to, and after decades in the field, she is proud to have done just that. Her academic designations include Master of Science in business education from the University at Albany, a Bachelor of Science in business from Russell Sage College, and certified business teacher in the state of New York.
At the beginning of her career, Ms. Johnsen served in the account service division of McCann-Erickson, Inc., and as an executive assistant in public relations at Johnson & Johnson (now Johnson & Johnson Services, Inc.). It was at the latter company that she met her mentor, Lawrence G. Foster, whom she asked for advice on every major decision in her life or career. He encouraged her forward advancement to positions like staff writer in the investment division of the Glens Falls Insurance Co., secretary-treasurer and executive secretary to the president of the Glens Falls Portland Cement Co., director of development at the Lake George Opera Festival, staff writer, media director, and executive assistant at Kimberly Communications, Inc., and sales manager of Lifelines Gifts & Cards.
In 1974, Ms. Johnsen enhanced her professional journey by becoming a freelance writer and consultant in administration, media, marketing, and public relations, and in 1985, she became an entrepreneur in marketing, sales, and management for KJ Associates. She maintains all of these roles to this day, as well as her positions as a team leader and consultant for Mary Kay Inc., which she started in 1994.
Outside of her work, Ms. Johnsen is very active in her community. She is currently the alumnae admissions liaison of the Russell Sage College Alumnae Association and the charter secretary of public relations for the Scotch Plains Association Concerning Environment, and was previously the publicity director of the fundraising campaign of the Glens Falls YMCA, the charter secretary of the Lake George Opera Guild, and the class reunion chair of Russell Sage College Alumnae Association. Additionally, Ms. Johnsen has been a member of the Norwegian Immigration Association, Inc., the board of the directors of the Plainfield Symphony Orchestra, the Order of the Eastern Star, The American-Scandinavian Foundation, AAUW, and Delta Pi Epsilon. As part of the Vasa Order of America, she has served as New Jersey district secretary, cultural leader, supervisor of children’s clubs, and local lodge chairman.
When Ms. Johnsen has free time, she enjoys skiing, singing, writing, and folk art.
