A celebrated figure in the field of law, Mr. Johnson has been serving as shareholder and founder of Wayne R. Johnson & Associates, PLC, since 2010. In this position, Mr. Johnson concentrates on domestic and international wealth planning, family business planning, and tax controversy matters. Prior to this appointment, he acted as shareholder of Valensi Rose, PLC, from 1999 to 2010. Alongside his primary roles, he has served as an adjunct professor of tax law at Loyola Law School’s Graduate Tax Program since 2005, adjunct professor of law at Golden Gate University’s Los Angeles campus from 1997 to 2002, and adjunct professor of law at the College of Law of Western State University from 1997 to 2000.
A respected voice in the field, Mr. Johnson is a member of the board of advisors of the Graduate Tax Program at Loyola Law School, the former chair of the taxation section of the California State Bar, chair of the Make a Wish Foundation in Los Angeles, CA, chair of Wise Senior Services, and committee member of the Reagan Foundation.
To prepare for his illustrious career, Mr. Johnson sought a formal education, first obtaining a Bachelor of Science in accounting, business, finance, and economics from North Dakota State University in 1989. He followed this accomplishment with a Doctor of Jurisprudence, with distinction, from the School of Law at the University of North Dakota in 1994. Subsequently, he earned a Master of Laws in taxation law from the School of Law at New York University in 1995. He has been admitted to practice in the state of California, as well as before the U.S. Tax Court, the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
The chair of the subcommittee on individual income taxation with the USC Tax Institute from 2006 to 2009, Mr. Johnson has maintained affiliation with several industry-related organizations. He is also a member of the State Bar of California, the executive committee of the USC Tax Institute, and the planning committee of the UCLA Tax Controversy Institute.
Mr. Johnson has shared his knowledge through the publication of several articles in professional journals, including “Tax Collection Techniques: Money Still Talks” in the Journal of Tax Practice and Procedure in 2007 and 2008, “Current Developments in Individual Income Tax Planning” in Major Tax Planning in 2005, “Reducing Debt Can Carry Tax Consequences” in the California Bar Journal in 2002, and “Qualifying Reverse Exchanges under Revenue Procedure 2000-37” in the Los Angeles Lawyer in 2001.
In recognition of his exceptional accomplishments, Mr. Johnson has accrued several accolades throughout his career. In 2011, he was honored with the V. Judson Klein Award by the taxation section of the State Bar of California. In addition, he has been named a Super Lawyer in the Field of Taxation Law every year since 2009, and he was named a Rising Star Among Southern California Lawyers in 2004, 2005, and 2006. The proud father of one daughter, he enjoys hockey, rugby, traveling, and drinking wine in his spare time.
