Amassing more than 50 years of professional experience in his field, Mr. O’Block has been a general and managing partner of Freeport Center Associates since 1971. Mr. O’Block commenced his career as an associate in real estate management and finances with McKinsey & Company from 1969 to 1978. He subsequently rose through the ranks with the company, becoming a principal and director between 1979 and 1998. Retiring from the position in 1998, he is now recognized as director emeritus.
To prepare for his successful career, Mr. O’Block pursued a formal education, receiving a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Purdue University in 1965 and a Master of Business Administration from Harvard University in 1967. He underwent research and teaching fellowships in urban management, economics, and finance with Harvard University from 1967 to 1970.
Passionate about his community, Mr. O’Block has served as vice chair of the board of trustees for Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center since 2012. He is the former co-chair of the board of trustees of Boston Symphony Orchestra, where he previously served as vice chair of the board of trustees and trustee in 2000. In addition, he has been a visiting lecturer of urban economics at such prestigious institutions as Yale Law School and Princeton University.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field, Mr. O’Block has been highlighted in several editions of Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the East, Who’s Who in the World, and Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
