Nancy A. Smith, Administrator at the Internal Revenue Service, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in field management.
The manager and administrator of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) with the U.S. Department of Treasury since 1999, Ms. Smith has amassed more than 40 years of professional excellence in her areas of expertise. Prior to this appointment, she was a revenue agent with the IRS from 1988 to 1999, department head of the Cooperative Education Program at the North Virginia Chamber of Commerce from 1978 to 1981, and contract administrator in the department of health and human services with the state of Texas from 1976 to 1978. Alongside her primary endeavors, she was also a communications representative with the IRS from 2002 to 2005 and a faculty representative with the Faculty Senate North Virginia Chamber of Commerce from 1979 to 1981.
To prepare for her career, Ms. Smith pursued a formal education at Vanderbilt University, completing coursework within the Blair Academy of Music in 1966. In 1970, she completed additional coursework at the American International Academy of Europe. Soon thereafter, she received a Bachelor of Arts in psychology with distinction from Rhodes College in 1972. Ms. Smith was presented with an honorary master’s degree from the University of Tennessee in 1974. She has been certified in accounting by Middle Tennessee State University, the University of South Carolina, and the University of New Orleans.
In recognition of her exceptional contributions to her field, Ms. Smith has been highlighted in several editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the World, and Who’s Who of American Women. Married since 1999, she enjoys oil painting, skeet shooting, camping, and raising German shepherds in her spare time.
