With nearly four decades of experience working on Wall Street, Mr. Hawkins is an esteemed figure in the areas of investment theories, quantitative investment research and analysis. Prior to retiring, he ran his own company, Investment Analytics. He launched the company in 1984. Prior to starting this venture, he gained experience as a financial analyst with Lynch Jones and Ryan (I/B/E/S), as a senior investment officer with the Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Company, as a financial analyst for Lehman Brothers and as a senior security analyst at Drexel Harriman Ripley.
While equipped with a solid education, including an MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Bachelor of Arts in economics from the University of the South, Mr. Hawkins credits his own ability in teaching himself many of the industry skills that has lead to his success. In addition to his education and perseverance, Mr. Hawkins credits a friend at the University of the South for recommending him to the University of South Carolina and also his mentor, Ed Carnes, who is a circuit judge for the Eleventh Federal Court of Appeals.
In addition to his successful career in the field of finance, Mr. Hawkins has contributed many articles and research papers that examine the stock market on both the practical and theoretical sides. Even in retirement, Mr. Hawkins continues to build a solid inventory of materials.
