Thomas Turk, Media Consultant, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in media and communications.
Amassing more than 55 years of professional excellence in the field of communications, Mr. Turk has been serving as a media and art consultant since 2007. Prior to this position, he was the executive director of Tennesseans for the Arts from 2003 to 2006, the executive director of the Metropolitan Nashville Arts Commission from 1993 to 2003, and the managing director of the Texarkana Regional Arts and Humanities Council from 1991 to 1993. Likewise, he also served as the executive director of the Cultural Activities Center in Temple, TX, from 1981 to 1991, a fine arts producer for WKAR-TV at Michigan State University from 1969 to 1981, and an assistant editor of information services at Michigan State University from 1962 to 1963. He commenced his career as a promotion and publicity director for WMBS-TV in 1961 and an acting director of the news bureau at DePauw University from 1961 to 1962.
Locally, Mr. Turk most recently held the role of president of the U.S. Urban Arts Federation from 1999 to 2000 and briefly served as a governor-appointed member of the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs from 1979 to 1981. The former chairman of the Michigan Arts Forum, he also acted as director of the Michigan Association of Community Arts Agencies, as well as a president of the Metropolitan Association of Community Arts Agencies and the Metropolitan Lansing Fine Arts Council. He has remained a member of the board of directors of the University Club of Nashville from 2006 to 2010 and since 2016.
Previously serving in the U.S. Air Force until his honorable discharge in 1960, Mr. Turk is a member of Americans for the Arts, Rotary International and Sigma Chi Fraternity. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in creative writing from DePauw University, a Master of Arts in radio, television and film from Michigan State University, and a certificate from the Harvard Institute in Arts Administration.
