Fred Byus, Owner of Future Force LLC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in research and development.
As the owner of Future Force LLC, Mr. Byus delivers consulting services to people in the United States Navy in an effort to aid them in technological advances to remain abreast of changes within the industry. Founded recently in 2018, the company is headed by Mr. Byus, who has built a versatile and strong clientele based off of his contacts from his career in the United States Navy. During his years in the military, he came upon myriad opportunities across a broad range of areas, including requirements development, resourcing, financial management and war fighter operations attack submarines.
Spending more than 10 years with the Battelle Memorial Institute in the research and development industry, Mr. Byus was the former general manager of mission and defense technologies, general manager of the maritime systems business unit, and vice president of the National Security’s Navy Market Group. Prior to joining the Battelle, he had a longstanding, distinguished 31-year long career in the United States Navy, where his experience included leadership positions in nuclear engineering, submarines, and command and control of fleet and joint forces. He also served as an oceanographer and navigator of the Navy, Commander of Naval Forces in Korea, Commander of Submarine Squadron Seven, and Commanding Officer of the U.S.S. Tautog. He retired from the military as a Rear Admiral.
Alongside his primary endeavors, Mr. Byus has been a member of the national board of directors of the U.S. Sea Cadets since 2013, and he was the former chairman of SeeByte from 2014 to 2018 and member of the board of directors of Bluefin Robotics, the Battelle’s wholly-owned subsidiary, from 2008 to 2013. He remains a member of the advisory council of the Naval Submarine League and a member of the Navy League of the United States and the American Society of Naval Engineers.
Mr. Byus is well-trained in autonomy and robotic vehicles, as well as submarines and submarine technology. He is a member of the editorial board of “Submarine Review.” To prepare for his career, he pursued an extensive education, first receiving a Bachelor of Science in marine engineering from the United States Naval Academy in 1976. He subsequently received a Master of Science in engineering management from The George Washington University in 1993. Since then, he has completed coursework in business and national security from such academic institutions as the University of California, Berkeley; the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago; and Syracuse University.
In recognition of his exceptional contributions to the military, Mr. Byus was presented with the Distinguished Service Medal from the United States Navy and an award for Ten Years of Service from the Battelle Memorial Institute. Looking toward the future, he hopes to continue teaching, mentoring and consulting in his fields of expertise. He is especially motivated to advise new generation leaders so that they are more successful moving forward.
