Amassing more than six decades of professional experience in engineering, Dr. Lebow is a revered and dedicated engineer and independent consultant who has made strides within the academic and government sectors. An independent consultant since 1987 and teacher at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at American University since 1998, he previously served the Systems Research and Applications Corporation as vice president for three years, American Satellite Company as vice president of engineering for three years, and the U.S. Department of Defense as chief scientist and associate director of technology for six years. Prior to these appointments, he held several roles with Massachusetts Institute of Technology, including a member of the steering committee, associate head of the data systems division, associate head of the communications division, associate leader and leader of the Satellite Communications Surface Techniques Group, and staff member. He also served as an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland for six years.

To prepare for his career, Dr. Lebow pursued an education at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, earning a Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in 1948 and 1951, respectively. A member of Sigma Xi and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, he has been the author and co-author of five books throughout his vocation. In addition, prior to obtaining his degrees, he served in the U.S. Naval Reserve for two years.

In recognition of his exceptional contributions to engineering, he was honored with the Meritorious Civilian Medal from the U.S. Department of Defense in 1981 and earned the rank of Meritorious Senior Executive in 1980. Married to Grace Hackel since 1951, he is the proud father of three children. Notably, he was selected for inclusion in several editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering and Who’s Who in the East.
