Amassing nearly four decades of professional experience, Mr. Deming is a prominent economist and banker who retired from the industry in 2000. Formerly the executive assistant to the chairman at Chemical Bank/Chase Manhattan Bank from 1989 to 1999, he previously served as the senior vice president and economist at Chemical Bank from 1971 to 1989, special assistant to the secretary at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development from 1970 to 1971, and the executive director at the Commission for Mortgage Interest Rates in 1969. He commenced his career as a senior staff economist at the Council of Economic Advisers in 1968 and with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York from 1961 to 1971.
To prepare for his illustrious career, Mr. Deming pursued a formal education at Princeton University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in economics in 1957. He subsequently attended Yale University, graduating with a Master of Arts in economics in 1958. While he was obtaining his graduate degree, Mr. Deming looked up to Professor James Tobin, a renowned economist who earned a Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in 1981.
Mr. Deming was the former community host of the Colorado Yale Association from 2001 to 2017. In addition, he was a treasurer for the College Class of 1957 at Princeton University. The highlight of his career was when he was the staff director on a special commission on mortgage interest rates while he was in Washington, DC. Upon reading a special report they wrote, the United States Congress adopted their proposal in 1969. In addition, Mr. Deming looks fondly upon his time spent as the special assistant to the chairman of Chemical Bank, Walter Shipley.
Married to Lynne Eve Anken since 1960, Mr. Deming is the proud father of two children, three grandchildren, and one step-grandchild. He has been highlighted in several editions of Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, and Who’s Who in the East.
