Lena Jenkins-Smith, Record Label Chief Executive Officer at Young Millennium Records, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in entrepreneurship.
A hardworking entrepreneur, Ms. Jenkins-Smith is proud to have carved out a successful career in the music industry. She was first exposed to the field as a child, when she would go with her uncle, a Motown writer, to the studio. Ms. Jenkins-Smith didn’t pursue music right away, however, instead choosing to focus on her interest in early education. Although she loved being able to make a difference in the lives of students, she ultimately decided to return to entertainment. Ms. Jenkins-Smith accrued more than a decade of experience as an executive assistant to some of Hollywood’s elite, including Katt Williams, before setting out on her own. Her decision to open Young Millennium Records in 2016 was inspired by her son.
Now, as the CEO of the record label, Ms. Jenkins-Smith has the opportunity to combine her passion for music with her passion for working with youth. She is responsible for finding talent and facilitating projects to launch the careers of aspiring artists. Her son was the first signed, and they have since expanded to a total of five. Ms. Jenkins-Smith prides herself on her ability to manage multiple aspects of a client’s career at once, including but not limited to arranging housing, selecting wardrobes, managing the logistics of concerts and appearances, and working closely with vendors. She is also the liaison between the artists, producers, and writers.
To prepare for her endeavors, Ms. Jenkins-Smith earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a Bachelor of Education from Loyola University and a Master of Business Administration from Strayer University in 2014. She attributes her success to her drive, ambition, and persistence. Looking to the future, Ms. Jenkins-Smith intends to release several scripted shows that are currently in mid-production. One explores the music and her label, and another is about the business. The third is bout women’s empowerment. She wants to be seen as a dominant female in the production business.
