He brings to this firm his prior experience, having gained and facilitated a robust skill set in positions such as the managing director of financial planning and wealth management with the Wilmington Trust Corporation and as the Executive Director of UBS in the private bank from 1999 to 2001. One of his most notable roles has been his admittance to partnership at KPMG, a role which he held from 1989 to 1999. He had previously worked for the company as a senior manager. He was honored for his work as a Top Financial Planner during his time at Wilmington Trust Corporation. Earlier in his career, Mr. Hakala was a supervisor for Weeden & Co. and a manager at Coopers & Lybrand.
With such a diverse background, Mr. Hakala first got his start by obtaining an AB in history from Georgetown University. He continued at St. John’s University, receiving a JD in 1975. Consistently dedicated to a life filled with learning, he continued with postgraduate work at New York University for the remainder of the decade. He was admitted to the federal bar in 1975, the New Jersey bar in 1975 and the New York bar a year later.
Mr. Hakala attributes the success in his career to his mentor, former partner and boss, Mr. Eugene Schorr. He has also maintained affiliation with a variety of organizations that have aided in professional and personal development. These include memberships to the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Ocean Beach and Yacht Club, the Normandy Beach Club, the University Club, the Finnish American Lawyers’ Association and the International Legal Honor Society of Phi Delta Phi.
