John “Jack” Carl Smith, former Publishing Executive and Foreign Trade Consultant, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Publishing.

Mr. Smith is a former publishing executive and foreign trade consultant with a professional career that spanned over 50 years. Beginning his career as a representative at Flying Tiger Line, Inc. in 1958, he would then move into the publishing industry in 1961, where he would spend almost 30 years. From 1964 until 1990, he was a publishing executive at Penton Publishing Co. in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1990, after retiring from publishing, Mr. Smith worked as a special advisor for the American Foreign Policy Council, a non-profit think tank focused on foreign and defense policy. Mr. Smith was always very active in the civic and political sphere, having served as a trustee on a Presidential Task Force, the Republican Senatorial Inner Circle Council of Logistics Management, and the United States Business and Industry Council.

Mr. Smith graduated from Ohio University in 1954 with a Bachelor of Arts. Prior to his professional career, Mr. Smith served in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1958. He was a diplomate of the Air Education and Training Command of the U.S. Air Force Reserve. Mr. Smith was always very active in professional organizations, having been a member of the American Management Association, the North American Business Press, and the International Platform Association, just to name a few. In memory of his distinguished career and service, he was named a recipient of the 2017 Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, as well as a Distinguished Humanitarian.
