Robert K. Lewis, Jr., Founder and Chairman at Global Advancement, and retired Navy Captain, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Non-Profit Development.
For over 50 years, Robert K. Lewis Jr. has devoted his career to fundraising and non-profit development. Since 1991, he has served as chairman and founder of Global Advancement, LLC, which provides fundraising counsel for not-for-profit organizations. Prior to this, he had served as president of the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, senior vice president of Host Communications, director of public affairs for Virginia Polytechnic Institute, and director of annual giving for Center College.
Prior to his work in non-profit development and fundraising, Mr. Lewis spent many years in the United States Navy. He first enlisted in 1953 as an officer in the Navy Reserve while he was still in college. He enlisted out of a desire to serve his country. In 1967, he became a regular officer of the U.S. Navy and rose through the ranks to Captain, the rank that he retired as in 1981. In 1957, Mr. Lewis graduated from Centre College, where he received in a Bachelor of Arts degree. Then in 1972, he received a Master of Science from The George Washington University.
Throughout his career, Mr. Lewis has always been actively involved in his community, serving as a member and leader in many organizations. His service to fundraising and non-profit development has been prolific. He was a member of the national board of trustees of the Giving USA Foundation from 2008 to 2013, and a member of the national board of directors of the Giving Institute from 2007 to 2012. He has also served on the board of directors of the Association of Philanthropic Counsel, the Henry Clay Foundation, the Association of Fund Raising Professionals, the Lexington Rotary Endowment, and the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education. He is also a deacon and elder in the Presbyterian Church.
