Hobart Robinson, Retired Partner at McKinsey and Co., Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in corporate, business, manufacturing and transportation.
From the early 1960s, up until his retirement in 1998, Mr. Robinson lead an exciting and rewarding career. Utilizing decades of experience and hard-won expertise, he served as a management consulting executive. Prior to retiring, he was the Director of Administration in Eastern Europe for McKinsey and Co., Inc., as well as the company’s principal. He had previously gained experienced as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Brink’s Inc., as Executive Vice President and Director of Simplex Wire and Cable, Inc., Manager of Program Analysis and Control at Polaroid Corp. After graduating with an MBA, he served as a market analyst for Mobil Chemical Co. from 1964 to 1967. Upon joining Mobil, he was told he would be involved in analyzing new investments in phosphate mines. Due to his education, he was one of the first people to have the ability to calculate the internal rate of return and net present value. That soon would become the norm for investment opportunity evaluations.
While Mr. Robinson has worked all over the world, he started first at Williams College, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1959. He spent the next few years in service of the US Navy Reserve. He was a Lieutenant from 1959 to 1962 and between 1960 and 1962 was on the Deck and Gunnery Divisions of the USS Little Rock CLG-4. During his service, he was also involved in the JAG school. Following his military service, he earned an MBA from Columbia University in 1964. Upon reflecting on the success of his career, Mr. Robinson cites his mentor; Ron Daniels at McKinsey and Co. as being an integral figure. He was the New York office manager and became managing director of the firm at one point.
With his expertise, Mr. Robinson has also been engaged in a number of civic activities all over the world. From 1999 to 2004, he served as the Vice Chair of the William College Alumni Fund. From 1998 to 2015, he was the Class Agent for the group. While living in Denmark, he served as the Director of the Fulbright Commission and the President of the American Club in Copenhagen. He maintains membership with the Tournament Players Club and the Sawgrass Country Club. In his retirement, he enjoys gold, singing in a local chorus, genealogy and history.
