Richard Amberg, Newspaper Executive at The Washington Times, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of publishing.

Renowned for his management skills and keen intellect, Mr. Amberg has had an exceptional career as a newspaper executive. Graduating with a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University in 1964, he has held leadership roles with multiple noteworthy publications, most recently serving as the associate publisher and general manager for The Washington Times from 1999 to 2009.  He has been the general manager of The Free Lancestar in 1998 and president of publications for the Montgomery Advertiser from 1986 to 1997, among other illustrious positions with renowned publications. Mr. Amberg considers the highlights of his career to be his appointment as editor of the Illinois edition of the St. Louis Democrat as well as when he had been president of publications for The Alabama Journal. During this time, the publication won the Pulitzer Prize for its relentless investigation of Alabama’s alarmingly high infant-mortality rate. The idea for the groundbreaking investigation had been partially inspired by Mr. Amberg’s own daughter, who passed away as a premature baby.

Mr. Amberg’s career has been influenced by his own father, who had also been a newspaper publisher. Understanding how influential the press can be, Mr. Amberg has dedicated himself to truth and accuracy in his reporting, using his position of power to help his community. Recognized for his success, Mr. Amberg has received several awards including, but not limited to, the National Silver Bell Award from the Advertising Council in 2004, the Outstanding Philanthropic Corporation Award from the National Society of Fundraising Executives in 1995 and a Distinguished Service Medal from the State of Alabama in 1992. In addition to these accomplishments, Mr. Amberg had been a captain of the US Navy Reserve from 1966 to 1994 and has been on active duty with the US Navy from 1964 to 1966. He holds membership with several esteemed organizations including, but not limited to, the American Red Cross, the Alabama World Affairs Council and the New Beginnings Education Center. In recognition of his outstanding success, Mr. Amberg has been presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award and has been featured in multiple editions of Who’s Who In Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in the South and Southwest.
