Amassing nearly 50 years of professional excellence, Mr. Reed is a prominent publisher, writer and photographer who has been serving as a publisher for Little Falls Press since 2014, a research assistant at George Mason University and the City University of New York since 2004, and a freelance writer and photographer since 1996. During these illustrious roles, he was a teacher at Woodbridge High School from 2005 to 2015, a research staff member of the Institute of Defense Analyses from 1998 to 2003, and a director in the industrial and manufacturing sciences division of TASC from 1991 to 1997. Previously, he served TASC as the manager of the institutional resources department from 1985 to 1991, manager of contingency planning from 1982 to 1985, and analyst from 1981 to 1982. A professional staff member for the Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs with the U.S. Senate in Washington, DC, from 1977 to 1981, he also held the positions of senior member of the professional staff for the Joint Committee on Defense Production with the U.S. Congress from 1975 to 1977 and project director for the Council on Economic Priorities in New York City and Washington, DC, from 1970 to 1975.
Mr. Reed delved into his profession due to the influence of his grandfather, who had been at Gettysburg with the Union Army. Surrounded by stories about his grandfather since he was 2 years old, he became interested in United States history and photography, which he believes were passed down to him from his family. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics and journalism from Antioch College in 1971. Throughout his career, he has additionally contributed to Strategic Survey from 1981 to 1982 and has written two books, “Stories the Monuments Tell: A Photo Tour of Gettysburg Told by Its Monuments” in 2018 and “The American Defense Mobilization Infrastructure” in 1983.
Equally passionate about his community, Mr. Reed has involved himself as president of Montgomery Soccer, Inc., from 2001 to 2006 and vice president of Maryland State Youth Soccer Association from 1998 to 2005. Having previously been on the board of directors of Montgomery Soccer, Inc., from 1994 to 2014, he also served the North Bethesda Congress of Citizens Associations as president and vice president between 1983 and 1986 and was the president of the Randolph Civic Association from 1978 to 1980. In 1971, he was a delegate for the White House Conference on Youth, and he has frequently volunteered with the Gettysburg National Military Park and the South Central Community Action Project.
Mr. Reed has been a member of the steering committee for his local chapter of Democracy for America, as well as the 80th Division Veterans’ Association. In recognition of his exceptional achievements in his industry, he was listed among the Builders of MSI in 2013 and was named Coach of the Year in 1996. Notably, he has been highlighted in numerous editions of Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the East, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
