Prior to these roles, he was chairman and chief executive officer of Crescent Healthcare, Inc., from 2004 to 2012, president and chief executive officer of Syncor International from 1996 to 2002, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Syncor International from 1993 to 1996, and executive vice president and manager of McKesson Drug Company in 1993. In addition, he previously served as the corporate vice president and president of the Pharmaseal division of Baxter International, Inc., from 1989 to 1993, president of the Paramax Systems division of Baxter International, Inc., from 1986 to 1989, and president of Medcom, Inc., with Baxter International, Inc., from 1983 to 1986. Likewise, he formerly served Baxter International, Inc., in multiple other capacities, including vice president of materials management and director of distribution, among other illustrious roles beginning in 1975.
To prepare for his career, Mr. Funari pursued formal education at Cornell University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering in 1969. He subsequently attended Harvard University, receiving a Master of Business Administration in 1975. Alongside his primary endeavors, he was previously on the board of directors of Beckman Coulter, Inc., from 2005 to 2011, First Consulting Group from 2004 to 2008, and Pope & Talbot from 2001 to 2008.
To remain aware of recent developments within his industry, Mr. Funari has maintained affiliation with several organizations, such as the Memorial Care Foundation, where he has been serving as chairman of the board since 2018. Likewise, he has been on the Rand Think Tank Board of Advisors since 2003 and has been the chair of the executive advisory board of the Adaptive Leaders Organization since 1998. In the past, he was on the board of trustees of SCS Newman Scholars and on the Henry Mayo Newhall Board of Directors.
In recognition of his exceptional contributions to the health care industry, Mr. Funari was named a Baker Scholar in 1975 and received the Entrepreneur of the Year Award from Ernst & Young LLP in 2010.
