Peter Pfund, Retired Senior Advisor at the U.S. Department of State, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in government.
Mr. Pfund began his work with the State Department shortly after completing law school and remained with the department throughout the entirety of his career. Early in his career, Mr. Pfund was assigned as an attorney adviser to the office of the legal adviser and then became the assistant legal adviser for private international law. From 1966 to 1968, Mr. Pfund commuted his service as an attorney in the legal division with the International Atomic Energy Agency. From 1973 to 1978, he provided his expertise as a legal advisor at the US Embassy in Bonn, Germany. He rounded out his career in the senior advisor role until 1997, and then worked as a part-time counselor for the inter-country adoption of children.
In 1954, Mr. Pfund earned a Bachelor of Arts in history, cum laude, from Amherst College. He later received a JD from the University of Pennsylvania in 1959. He served in the US Army from 1954 to 1956 and is also known in his line of work for his contributions to articles, professional journals and book chapters. Mr. Pfund had also been a member of the editorial advisory board for International Legal Materials. In recognition of his outstanding work, Mr. Pfund received a Leonard J. Theberge Prize for Private International Law from the American Bar Association in 1987. In his career, he has maintained professional affiliation with the American Bar Association, the German-American Lawyers Association, the American Law Institute and the American Society of Comp. Law.
