Dr. Hoffman had been writing music since high school. His interest in becoming a composer, arranger, and a conductor, was sparked when he was at Boston Conservatory and was majoring in music education and voice. Since then, he has lead an incredible career as a music editor and composer/arranger. He occasionally works as a guest conductor and guest lecturer at institutions. In one of his most recent roles, he was a guest lecturer at Tufts University. He was also a founding music director of the Temple Israel of Natick Singers, and has conducted at the Congregation B’Nai Torah High Holiday choir, and the Zachor Choral Ensemble at the Community-Wide Holocaust Memorial Services at Faneuil Hall in Boston. He has also given guest lectures at the Longy of School and the Boston University Tanglewood Institute.
In 1981, Dr. Hoffman earned a BMus in music composition at the Boston Conservatory of Music, cum laude. He continued at the New England Conservatory of Music where he received a MMus in music composition in 1984. Following this, he earned a PhD in music composition and theory from Brandeis University in 1993. In 2002, his piece “Grant Us Peace,” was chosen as one of the selected works in the Waging Peace Through Singing Repertoire. He has received other accolades such as the co-first place prize at the Choral Composition Competition with the Longfellow Chorus, the first prize in the folio category at the Paul Revere Awards for Graphic Excellence from the Music Publishers Association among other awards.
