Alongside this endeavor, she was the longtime president of Pepper Publishing in Tucson for 30 years from 1973 to 2003. Prior to her current appointment, she was a real estate sales representative for Arizona Enterprises from 1970 to 1971 and Denton Real Estate from 1969 to 1970, and a legal secretary for multiple law firms, including Waterfall, Economidis, Falk & Caldwell in 1969, Bilby, Thompson & Shoenhair from 1968 to 1969, and Royal and Carlson from 1964 to 1968.

Ms. Lockard completed coursework at the University of Denver from 1949 to 1950, having subsequently received a degree from the University of Arizona in 1960. The author of three editions of “This is Tucson,” published in 1983, 1985, and 1988, she was also the editor and designer for “Where the Desert Meets the Sea.” More recently, she authored “Speaking Out” in 2004. Passionate about literature and publishing, she has been vice chair of the Tucson Book Publishers Association since 1990 and was the former chair of the Rocky Mountain Book Publishers Association from 1984 to 1985.

As a testament to her profound success, Ms. Lockard has accrued several accolades throughout her career. The recipient of the Benjamin Franklin Award for her work on “Where the Desert Meets the Sea” by the Publishers Marketing Association in 1989, she was also named a Distinguished Citizen by the University of Arizona Alumni Association in 1985. Earlier in her career, she was named a Young Republican Woman of the Year by Arizona Young Republicans in 1966. Additionally, she received the “This is Tucson” Award.
