Title: Management Consultant
Location: Escondido, California, United States
Allen Polk Hemphill, a Management Consultant, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in business.
Often in the right place at the right time, Mr. Hemphill led a long and illustrious career in business, computer science, communications, the military and education. His journey began at the age of 17, when he joined the U.S. Navy in the hopes that it would lead to a college education. Mr. Hemphill did, in fact, graduate from the U.S. Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science in 1957, but he ended up liking it so much that he spent 20 years in the service. During that time, he advanced through grades to lieutenant commander, served in the Korean War, and developed a specialty in submarines and computers.
When Mr. Hemphill stepped down in 1977, his tenacity, hardworking nature, and strength in turn-around management quickly caught the attention of higher-ups in his vast network. He was asked to come on as a manager of Prestige Properties that same year, and in 1980, he used what he learned to found Orion Business Systems. Mr. Hemphill then took his expertise to the KBSC-TV station in Los Angeles, which earned 12 Emmys in his year as the president and CEO, to Oak Broadcasting Systems, where he served as the chairman of the board of directors, and to Community Business Consultant, where he served as the president. In 1984, Mr. Hemphill joined National University as a core adjunct professor of computer science and President of the Alumni Association and finally felt he had found a place to settle down. He remained there until his retirement in 1997.
Outside of his career, Mr. Hemphill was very active in his community. Some of his most notable positions include president and chairman of the board of the Green Valley Civic Association, general manager of Remember the Pueblo, founder of the Hidden Meadows Community Foundation, and executive director of The Community Foundation of North San Diego County. He was also a panelist on the TV series “On Edge” for two years and the author of more than 2,500 columns in papers and journals. To further his professional standing, Mr. Hemphill earned a Master of Arts in management from National University in 1987.
