Mr. Peterson started his career in insurance underwriting and then went into banking. Neither of these professions truly felt like his calling until he went into publishing. Mr. Peterson started in the automotive appraisal business in 1974 and is the founding editor of Car Collector Magazine. Mr. Peterson had been into cars all of his life, and as early as three years old he could see a car down the street and name its make, model and year. He has been the editor emeritus of Car Collector Magazine since 1992. In his career, he was President of EDON, Incorporated, Vice President and Director of Classic Publishing Incorporated and President of the 1st State Bank Murdock. He was an underwriter from 1953 to 1966.

In 1952, Mr. Peterson earned a Bachelor of Science from Gustavus Adolphus College in 1952. He had previously studied at the University of Minnesota. On top of his work in publishing, underwriting and banking, Mr. Peterson has also been involved with local politics. He served as a councilman for the City of Murdock from 1968 to 1972 and was mayor from 1972 to 1974. Furthermore, he was a delegate for the State Republication Convention from 1970 to 1972 and a treasurer for the Swift County Republican Committee from 1970 to 1973. He served in the United States Navy from 1946 to 1947.

Mr. Peterson has been recognized in his career with the Citation for Distinguished Service from the Classic Car Club America. He also received the Hemmings Motor News Hobby Hero Award in 2002. Furthermore, Mr. Peterson has maintained affiliation with a variety of organizations that have allowed his professional development. He was involved with the International Society Philosophical Enquiry, the Swift County Bankers Association, the Society of Automotive Historians, the American Legion, Mensa, the Classic Car Club American, the Rolls-Royce Owners Club, the Antique Automobile Club, the Vintage Motor Car Club America, the Packard Club, the Cadillac-LaSalle Club, the Lincoln and Continental Owner’s Club and the Horseless Carriage Club America.
