John Farber, Chairman of the Board at ICC Industries, Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in chemistry corporations.
Hailing from Romania and settling in New York City, Dr. Farber has created a worldwide legacy. He established the International Chemical Company Industries Incorporated (ICC Industries, Inc.) in 1953, and has served as chairman since the organization’s inception. ICC Industries, Inc., serves as a holding company with operating business that are proficient in worldwide trading, distribution, marketing and manufacturing of chemicals, plastics and other related items.
Dr. Farber had earned a Master of Science from the University of Cluj-Timisoara in 1948. After the Romanian government overtook the family business, he and his family subsequently immigrated to America. Once in the US, Dr. Farber attended the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn where he earned a Doctor of Philosophy in chemistry in 1956. While in the PhD program, he worked as a research chemist at Sun Chemical Company from 1951 to 1952, ultimately creating a paint that he sold under his own label. Truly dedicated to his passions of science and business, Dr. Farber had established ICC Industries, Inc., while excelling at his academic work. The company continues to thrive under Dr. Farber’s expertise.
In addition to these pursuits, Dr. Farber has served as the chairman and president of the Dover Chemical Corporation in Ohio. He has also been the chairman of the board of Frutarom Limited and has maintained the status of chairman since 1996. His notoriety and expertise have afforded him membership with organizations such as the American Chemical Society the Society of Plastics Industry the Society of Plastics Engineers, the National Petroleum Refiners Association and the Chemical Manufacturers Association. As a testament to his excellence, Dr. Farber has been awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society of Plastics Engineers in 2018 and has been included in multiple editions of Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who In Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering and Who’s Who in the East.
Never one to limit himself, Dr. Farber has offered his expertise to numerous organizations. He has been a consultant for the Society des Peintures et Vernis Bouvet in Tournus, France, and Verneba A.G. Neuallschwill in Basel, Switzerland. He has also been a consultant for the Asahi Chemical Industry Company, Ltd., in Tokyo, the Chemische Fabrik Kalk GmbH, Koln, Kalk, in Germany and the Foster Grant Company, Inc., in Leominster, MA. Long renowned for his business acumen as well as his expertise in plastics, Dr. Farber eventually established the Primex Plastics Corporation in NJ.
Dr. Farber recalls becoming involved with the Chamber of Commerce once he entered the US. Members would occasionally travel to Romania and Dr. Farber was asked to go to his homeland. While in Romania, Dr. Farber repurchased the family business and has kept it in the Farber Family to this day. In addition to his work, Dr. Farber cherishes his family. Married to Maya Kleyman Farber since 1953, Dr. Farber has four children, Sandra, Deborah, Michael and Claudia.
