Vivian Carpenter, President at Atwater Entertainment Associates, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in mathematics education and accounting.
Inspired her father, a locomotive engineer who worked for Great Lakes Steel, and her aunts who were both math teachers, Dr. Carpenter knew she, too, wanted to pursue a career involving mathematics. She matriculated at the University of Michigan, earning a Bachelor of Science in engineering in 1973, a Masters of Business Administration in 1975 and a Doctor of Philosophy in business administration in 1985. Additionally, she is a certified meditation teacher, earned her CPA from the institution and became a professional accountant, working for Arthur Andersen & Co. from 1975 to 1977. Dr. Carpenter has also worked as a research engineer for Ford Motor Company as well as a deputy state treasurer for the Michigan Department Treasury. Her other positions included working as a professor for Wayne State University and the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University School Business & Industry before assuming her current role of President of Atwater Entertainment Associates.
In addition to her main pursuits, Dr. Carpenter has written the novel “The Fifth Letter” in 2015 as well as numerous articles to professional journals. Her work, “Service Efforts and Accomplishments,” earned the Best Interdisciplinary Paper Award from the Decision Sciences Institute in 1991, winning among the 900 other papers submitted. While accepting the award, Dr. Carpenter had noticed she was the only black person in the room and has considered winning the award to be a defining moment. She had accomplished all the goals she had set for herself and has recently set the ambitious goal of writing a best-selling fiction novel, hoping to find a major publisher for the project. In recognition of her talents, Dr. Carpenter has been affiliated with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants the American Accounting Association the National Association of Black Accountants and the Michigan Association of CPAs, among other noteworthy groups. Furthermore, Dr. Carpenter has been presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Who’s Who Lifetime Achievement Award and has been featured in the 30th edition of Who’s Who in Finance and Industry.
