Edward Paotai Kang, PhD, Biochemist and Consultant, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in biochemistry.
A fellow of the American Institute of Chemists and an award-winning biochemist, Dr. Kang brings with him an expertise in his field backed by 50 years of experience. He is highly regarded by peers for his research and development of the first diagnostic kit for HTLV III to be submitted to the Food and Drug Administration. Notably, the kit was approved in March 1983 for blood bank screening. Dr. Kang was the recipient of a Distinguished Alumnus Award from Howard University Graduate School and a Fifty Year Service Award from the American Chemical Society. When asked of his success, Dr. Kang credits God’s will. In a recent interview, he reflected on his interactions with his students and peers as having contributed to his achievements, as well as his low-key and humble personality. Retired since 2010, Dr. Kang concluded his career as the president of his own consulting firm, E.P. Kang Consultants.
Noteworthy roles held in Dr. Kang’s career include director of clinical studies and infectious diseases for United Biomedical, Inc., senior scientist and manager of research and development for Electro-Nucleonics Inc., research associate for the American Red Cross Blood Services Laboratories, biochemistry investigator for the Institute for Medical Research, and pharmaceutical instructor for Howard University, his alma mater. Dr. Kang’s success over five decades was supported by his education. He earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Southern California in 1966, followed by a Master of Science and a PhD in physical biochemistry from Howard University in 1969 and 1973, respectively. As he looks to the future, Dr. Kang intends to continue enjoying his retirement by indulging in his favorite hobbies and visiting his favorite place: St. Petersburg, Russia.
