A prominent trainer in languages at the Central Intelligence Agency for two decades between 1978 and 1998, Ms. Hughes is a successful language trainer and educator whose prestige in her field has marked a lasting impression on her colleagues, friends and family alike. Noting that her creativity, energy and willingness to help the world have all contributed to her success, she has always been a goal-oriented individual whose dedication to the field has been unparalleled. Prior to serving the Central Intelligence Agency, Ms. Hughes was a language instructor at Howard University between 1976 and 1978 and American University from 1974 to 1976.

To prepare for her career, Ms. Hughes pursued formal education at the University of Chile, where she earned a Master of Arts in English as a second language in 1968. Subsequently, she relocated to the United States, where she attended Western College and obtained a Bachelor of Arts in English literature in 1969. Transferring to American University soon thereafter, she received a Master of Arts in Spanish in 1972. Wishing to continue her education, she worked towards a doctorate degree, which she completed all but dissertation, in Spanish literature and education at Catholic University in 1976.

A native of Santiago, Chile, Ms. Hughes immigrated to the United States in 1968 and later married the late Arthur Middleton Hughes in 1976. In her spare time, she enjoys crafting, knitting and jewelry making. She has been listed in the 24th edition of Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, published in 1995. In addition, she is the recipient of the 2019 Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award.
