He has held such noteworthy roles as chairman of Survey Sampling International, CEO of Dimac Marketing Corp., chairman and CEO of ADVO Inc., president and CEO of RKO Six Flags Entertainment, and president and COO of the Marketing Corp. of America. Additionally, Mr. Kamerschen has served as a board member for 26 public company boards for big name corporations including Playboy Entertainment, Linens N Things, IMS Health, Inc., RadioShack Corp., R.H. Donnelley Corp, and MDC Partners as well as serving on 36 private company and 5 not-for-profit boards
The highlight of Mr. Kamerschen’s career was during his work with ADVO Inc. While there, the company was facing bankruptcy. Under Mr. Kamerschen’s leadership, ADVO got out of bankruptcy, went through a transitionary phase and unprecedented excellence and the resultant exceptional shareholder value appreciation. This evolution of success occurred over a 10-year period. When asked of his drive and professional success, Mr. Kamerschen notes that he has always had a knack for business. “I always liked a challenge and the diversity of challenges that come with new projects,” he says, adding that once he “solves the problem,” he is ready to take on the next opportunity. He began his career in sales, as inspired by his father, who taught him “nothing happens until revenue comes through the door.” He also attributes his success to his education. Mr. Kamerschen holds an MBA and a Bachelor of Arts from Miami University in Oxford, OH, which he earned in 1958 and 1957. His early roles in his career included work as an executive sales trainee with the National Cash Register, management trainee for Foote Cone & Belding, director of consumer marketing for Scott Paper Co., vice president of marketing for Revlon Chairman & CEO of Max Factor, Inc, US President of Chanel, and senior vice president of marketing and operations for Dunkin’ Donuts Inc. Along the way, Mr. Kamerschen took on academic projects such as numerous 4-day “executive-in-residence” roles at Miami University, as well as a one-time distinguished practitioner and lecturer at the University of Georgia. He has also lectured at numerous top business school universities and various industry trade associations.
Mr. Kamerschen remains at the top of his field through his affiliations with Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Delta Sigma Pi and Beta Gamma Sigma. As he looks ahead to the future, he intends to continue in his current work while seeking out new opportunities to contribute and impact others as a mentor, strategic advisor, etc.
