Richard Yokley, Protective Services Official, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in fire safety and engineering.

Now retired, Mr. Yokley derives satisfaction from reflecting on his career in public service. It was by chance that he joined the fire department after a neighbor told him his local company was hiring. After passing the test, he joined the Bonita-Sunnyside Fire Department, serving his community for more than two decades. Mr. Yokley was the fire marshal of the department from 1981 to 1991 and the operation chief from 1991 to 1993. Prior to retirement in 1999, he was a maintenance officer. In addition to these roles, Mr. Yokley has served on many medical and fire advisory committees.

Mr. Yokley earned an AS from Miramar College in 1975. He became a certified fire officer, instructor and investigator throughout his career. He served in the US Air Force from 1962 to 1968. A highlight of Mr. Yokley’s career has been the awards he received in 1987 and 1988. Mr. Yokley worked for eight years to get a center divider on a freeway where many head-on collisions occurred. These awards and other accolades include the Star News Salutes Award from Chula Vista Star News, the Heroism and Community Service Award from Firehouse Magazine, the Golden Service Award from the San Diego County Credit Union among others.
