Gilbert Stanley Leonard, Academic and Workforce Advisor at Lone Star College, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in infrastructure service.

Mr. Leonard became involved in his profession because his father wanted him to become an engineer, and then his uncle, who was a pioneer Naval aviator in the Second World War, influenced him to go into Naval ROTC. In 1963, while at Purdue in Naval ROTC, Mr. Leonard won the Chicago Tribune Award for Excellence in ROTC. Upon graduation from Purdue in early 1964 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in industrial management, a flight physical told Mr. Leonard in no uncertain terms that he would not be flying for the Navy. While initially devastating, this turned out to be a most positive change of life experience for Mr. Leonard. Instead, he was able to serve three years of active duty learning command, control, and leadership aboard the destroyer USS Charles. R. Ware (DD-865), and in the process gain the experience of a lifetime. Mr. Leonard then went on to attain the rank of Lieutenant in the U. S. Navy Reserve. In 1970, Mr. Leonard earned a Master of Science degree in business with a major in marketing from The University of Kansas (KU).

Mr. Leonard has enjoyed being a mentor to others throughout his career. After the Navy, Mr. Leonard joined Tennessee Eastman Co. as a production planner from 1966 to 1968. In 1970, following his tenure at KU, he joined Exxon Co., USA, in Houston where he has spent over 30 years working as a marketing analyst, senior marketing analyst, strategic systems planner, systems supervisor, senior systems supervisor, and infrastructure systems manager, to name a few. After retiring from Exxon in 2000, Mr. Leonard worked as an instructor at Texas A&M University teaching operations management, before joining Lone Star College, initially as an adjunct professor and subsequently as academic & work-force advisor, which is his current role. As a testament to his success, Mr. Leonard received the Exxon Quality Tiger Award in 1991 and has been included in multiple editions of Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest and Who’s Who in the World.
