As a student, Mr. Pilkenton attended Sam Houston State University, the University of Houston, Southern Bible College, and later, Collin College. He became a licensed real estate broker in 1966, at the direction of his father, but had no plans to pursue it as a career. In 1964, Mr. Pilkenton co-founded and managed the Timesmen Gospel Singing Quartet, where he worked for four years. In 1968, he became an ordained minister, and started working at McDuff Brothers Ministry. After a few years, Mr. Pilkenton started his own ministry, Spiritual Life Ministries Inc., in 1972. In 1982, he became an associate minister for Roger McDuff Evangelistic Association Inc.
While studying at Collin College, he started his career in real estate as an office manager for Merritt-Ammons Real Estate in 1985. Mr. Pilkenton credits Cal Merritt as a mentor and motivator for him in his real estate career. In 1987, Mr. Pilkenton started his own business, becoming the owner and manager of Pilkenton Real Estate. To this day, he continues his work at Spiritual Life Ministries Inc. and as a real estate broker. He finds it incredibly rewarding to help people grow spiritually, and similarly, he enjoys helping his real estate clients find a place where they can be comfortable. In recognition of his service to the community, he received a certificate of appreciation from the Rotary Club in 1976. As a testament to his experience and success, Mr. Pilkenton was included in the fourth edition of Who’s Who in Religion.
