Michael G. Luxenberg, Retired Founder and Chief Executive Officer Emeritus at Professional Data Analysts, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of evaluation of public health programs.
Dr. Luxenberg studied at the Pratt Institute, earning a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering, with honors, in 1972. He started as an electrical engineer at the National Security Agency, where he worked until 1974. He continued his education at the University of Minnesota (UM), where he studied behavioral genetics, earning National Public Health Service Research Awards from 1979 to 1982. In 1984, he started working as founder and chief executive officer at Professional Data Analysts (PDA), and in 1986, he earned a PhD in psychology from UM. Since 2000, he has been a partner at Damarco Solutions LLC, and in 2016 he became CEO Emeritus at PDA.
Through his career, Dr. Luxenberg as part of PDA has worked for several public health organizations, and from 1999 to 2012, he worked as a principal investigator of the evaluation of QUITPLAN® tobacco cessation programs at ClearWay MinnesotaSM formerly the Minnesota Partnership for Action Against Tobacco. From 2005 to 2015, he was principal investigator and later statistical consultant for the evaluation of the Tobacco Prevention and Control Trust Fund Cessation Programs at the Hawaii Department of Health, and from 2008 to 2015, his roles included principal investigator, statistician and consultant for the evaluation of the Tobacco Quitline at the Bureau of Tobacco Free Florida for the Florida Department of Health. Additionally, he worked as principal investigator, statistician and consultant for the Connecticut’s Department of Public Safety suite of programs: tobacco quitline, community programs, school-based programs and media from 2009 to 2012.
Dr. Luxenberg attributes his success to developing an expertise in psychological research methods, statistics, database management, and program evaluation. His company, PDA, became known as an authority on the evaluation of smoking cessation programs, and wrote the issue paper for the North American Quitline Consortium entitled “Measuring Quit Rates.” Dr. Luxenberg has contributed to over 100 publications, co-authoring articles in professional journals, and is a member of the American Statistical Association, the American Evaluation Association, the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco, and he served as treasurer and board member for the Minnesota Evaluation Association. He advises aspiring professionals in his field to do the best work they can, without regard to financial compensation, and notes that fulfilling work, a positive reputation, and financial reward will follow.
