Paul Payton, Chief Software Engineer at Visa, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in software engineering.
With more than 35 years of professional experience, Mr. Payton has been the chief software engineer at Visa since 2011. Prior to obtaining his current role, he was a principal software engineer at Lockheed Martin from 2002 to 2011, where he was previously consulting software engineer from 1999 to 2002 and staff engineer from 1996 to 1999. He was previously a science programming specialist with the company from 1990 to 1996, a science programmer analyst from 1986 to 1990, and a senior science programmer from 1985 to 1986. Earlier in his career, he was a science programmer from 1984 to 1985 and an associate engineer from 1982 to 1984.
Mr. Payton first pursued an education with the College of San Mateo, where he obtained an Associate of Science, summa cum laude, in mathematics in 1980. He continued his studies with San Francisco State University, earning a Bachelor of Science, magna cum laude, in computer science in 1982. He was inspired to pursue a career in the field from an early age, having always held an interest in science and mathematics which was piqued by such shows as “Star Trek” and “Mission: Impossible.”
Throughout his career, Mr. Payton has been recognized for his contributions. He holds more than 12 patents in the field, and he has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. He has also received regional and state awards for poetry and creative writing. He has been featured in numerous honors publications, including Who’s Who in America.
