Dr. DeWeert was inspired to join his profession by the Apollo Program and Albert Einstein. He always knew he wanted to be either a mathematician or physicist, and finally decided on physics late in college while applying for graduate school. Dr. DeWeert graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in theoretical solid-state physics from the University of Notre Dame in 1986. To keep ahead of advancements in the field, he maintains affiliations with the Oceanography Society, the American Geophysical Union, the Hawaii Academy of Science, the Marine Technology Society, and SPIE, the International Society for Optical Engineering.
Dr. DeWeert worked as a chief technology officer for BAE Systems Spectral Solutions LLC, in Honolulu, Hawaii, from 2000 to 2005. He then progressed to the position of technical director with the company in 2015, a position he still holds today. An avid contributor to technology journals, he was the recipient of an Engineering Fellowship from BAE Systems EI&S in 2008. Attributing his success to having earned the respect of others, Dr. DeWeert holds a number of patents for medical image processing, has patents pending for a multispectral camera, and is credited with the discovery of gap states in ferromagnet-superconductor junctions, a recent interest in inseparable coded aperture imaging. In recognition of his expertise in his field, he has been featured in the 64th, 69th, and 70th editions of Who’s Who in America.
