Ulyesse J. LeGrange, Retired Oil Company Executive of ExxonMobile Corporation, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of business.
Having accrued 40 years of professional experience with ExxonMobil Corporation, Mr. LeGrange retired from the company in 1991 as the chief financial officer and the senior vice president of Exxon USA. Previously, he held the positions of the vice president and controller at Exxon Corp in New York from 1977 to 1983. Prior to that appointments, he held the posts of the president of Exxon Pipeline Company from 1975 to 1997. Between 1969 and 1970, he was employed as an assistant controller for Esso Europe Incorporated, an affiliate of Exxon Mobil. His career began in 1951 when he served as a clerical employee at ExxonMobil’s Baton Rouge Refinery.
Watching his brother study accounting in college, Mr. LeGrange gave up the idea of a career in law and pursued an education at Louisiana State University, graduating, magna cum laude, with a Bachelor of Science in accounting in 1951. After receiving his degree, he served in the United States Army as a corporal in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. He is certified as a public accountant in the state of Louisiana. Recognized as the National Accountant of the Year by Beta Alpha Psi in 1980, Mr. LeGrange has also been inducted into the Financial Executives International Hall of Fame and Louisiana State University’s Business School Hall of Distinction.
After retiring from ExxonMobil Corporation and beginning a second career in music, Mr. LeGrange obtained a U.S. Patent for the creation of a music training device. Among his over 50 pieces of music, he composed a Broadway-type musical that was performed by the Moore’s School of Music and had other pieces performed at local charity balls. Furthermore, he has received the President’s Award for Grand Benefactor from Louisiana State University, the Ovations for Excellence Award from the Houston Symphony, and the Outstanding Leader in the Arts Award from the University of Houston.
Outside of his immediate professional responsibilities, Mr. LeGrange was the chairman of the audit committee for the American Institute of CPAs, the president of the Houston Chapter of the Financial Executives Institute, and a member of the board of directors for the American Institute of CPAs. In addition to those roles, he was a valuable member of the Tax Research Association of Houston and the finance division of the American Petroleum Institute. Mr. LeGrange also contributed to the task forces of both the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Financial Accounting Standards Board, among other career affiliations.
Mr. LeGrange has been affiliated with the Business Arts Fund in Houston, Texas, as the organization’s chairman in 1986, vice chairman in 1985, treasurer in 1984, and a member of the board of directors in 1983. He has served on the board of directors of the Houston Symphony Society, a member of the advisory board of the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University from 1983 to 1986, vice chairman of the board of trustees for Papermill Playhouse in Millburn, New Jersey, in 1982, and vice chairman of the Citizens Budget Committee in Millburn, New Jersey, in 1979. Furthermore, he is a member of the Louisiana State University Foundation. He has served the Boy Scouts of America, Little League, and Junior Achievement as well as the United Way. Mr. LeGrange also served as the vice president of finance for the Houston Symphony Society, president of the Houston Symphony Endowment Fund, treasurer for Taping for the Blind and on the advisory boards for New York University’s Stern School of Business and the department of accounting at Louisiana State University.
In additional recognition of his achievements, he has been featured in the eighth edition of Who’s Who in the World, the 24th and 25th editions of Who’s Who In Finance and Industry, and several editions of Who’s Who in America.
