Richard Claborn Farr, Corporate Executive, Private Investor, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in business.
By demonstrating his strong abilities as an effective organizational leader for multifaceted businesses, Mr. Farr has met with success over the last 30 years. He is highly regarded for his aptitude, integrity, and values, which have allowed him to make a strong impact across many industries and for companies at various sizes. Mr. Farr established his career with Procter and Gamble, known today as one of the largest American multinational consumer goods corporations. He joined the company in 1952 at a time when the company required its employees to have a master’s degree for employment. Mr. Farr, who did not have this level of education, proved that hard work and commitment are qualities that can surpass an academic degree. Over the next 13 years, he advanced to executive positions within the organization at various locations around the country.
From there, Mr. Farr took on a senior vice president role with Continental Grain Co., where he split his time between New York City and Paris, France. After five years, he left to serve as managing director of Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc., a former global financial services firm. There, he optimized his business skillset in the consumer goods world and translated it into practical advisement strategies for small- and mid-sized businesses alike. Mr. Farr’s background and well-rounded skillset put him in a position as an executive leader in his field, leading him to achieve such roles as corporate vice president for Heublein Inc. and executive vice president for Crown Zellerbach Corporation. Since 1980, Mr. Farr has been in private practice as the founder, chairman, and CEO of Farr Investments.
Considered a leader in his field, Mr. Farr is involved with many prominent industry organizations and boards. Notably over the years he has been chairman of the board for the Bituminous Coal Corporation, chairman and chief executive officer of Lincoln Logs Limited, chairman of the board for Palladium Industries, member of the board of directors for the Archimedes Systems, member of the board of directors for the First Federal of Arkansas, member of the board of directors for Bouton, Inc., and member of the board of directors for Toyon Associates Inc.
Mr. Farr’s success is supported by his education, which includes a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy from Hendrix College, as well as postgraduate coursework completed at Stanford University and Southern Methodist University. He earned an honorary degree in 1986 in recognition of his professional excellence and his business acumen. Mr. Farr’s accomplishments have also been honored through an Honorary Distinguished Alumni Award from Hendrix College, a Fulbright scholar distinction and the title of “Young Man of the Year,” in Sacramento, California in 1957. He has also been the recipient of several Palm Awards as an Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America.
Outside of his professional work, Mr. Farr enjoys competitive athletic activities. Notably, he has achieved national ranking by the American Platform Tennis Association. He is involved with several organizations including the Hartford Golf Club, the Hartford Tennis University, the Oyster Harbors, the Ventana Canyon Golf and Country Club, the Ford Plantation Club, and the Ogeechee Golf Club. In the years to come, Mr. Farr intends to enjoy himself in business and through his favorite activities.
