Evelyn Blount, Executive Director and Treasurer, Emeritus of the Woman’s Missionary Union Auxiliary South Carolina Baptist Convention, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership.
Ms. Blount grew up in missions organizations and was tremendously influenced by her mother. As a young woman, she felt called by her religious faith to continue the spiritual work and pursued a career in education with a specialty in the history of the Old South and sociology, attending the Women’s College of Georgia and graduating with a Bachelor of Science in 1964. She continued her academic pursuits at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, where she earned a master’s degree in religious education in 1969.
From 1964 to 1966, Ms. Blount began her professional career as a teacher at Blue Mountain College before becoming a teacher at Berkmar High School from 1966 to 1967. Between 1967 and 1973, she found success in the positions of a group leader at the Baptist Center, a minister of education at the First Baptist Church, and an Acteens director for the Woman’s Missionary Union at Auxiliary Georgia Baptist Convention. Ms. Blount assumed the roles of a youth department supervisor, a field services director, a national enlargement plan director, and a program design specialist at the convention from 1973 to 1985. She continued her work at the convention and became the executive director in 1985, retiring from the post, as well as from her role as treasurer, in 2008.
Notably, Ms. Blount was named an honorary life member of the United States Air Force Air Defense Command in 1959, and is the author of several published works, including “Code E and Teachers Guide for Code E” and contributor to “No Longer Forgotten: The Remarkable Story of the Christian Women’s Job Corps.” She is a member of Hold Out the Lifeline: Prenatal & Family Ministries, the National Association of Female Executives, and the Barrow County Cooperative Benevolence Ministries. As a testament to her success, Ms. Blount has been featured in the 17th edition of Who’s Who of American Women, the fourth edition of Who’s Who in Religion and in multiple editions of Who’s Who in America.
